'13 NY Auto Show: Interview with James Bell, Head of Consumer Affairs, General Motors

I recently interviewed James Bell, Head of Consumer Affairs, General Motors during the 2013 New York International Auto Show. With over 16 years of experience, James Bell is a nationally recognized and authoritative resource within the automotive industry. During his tenure, James has diligently analyzed and effectively communicated automotive data and research to multiple constituencies, including the national and international media, automotive manufacturers, dealers, and the every-day shopper. His multifaceted experience has led to a unique perspective on the industry that easily crosses over the boundaries between the general consumer and passionate enthusiast. Prior to joining GM, James was Vice President of Corporate Communications and Executive Market Analyst for Kelley Blue Book. In this role, he was charged with promoting the KBB.com brand and driving traffic to its award-winning Web site. Bell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communications and Political Science from California State University.

My questions:

What can you tell us about car sales?

Why do you think sales are up and can we consider this to be an economic indicator?

What are some of the most anticipated models being unveiled at this year's show?

What kinds of trends are developing in new cars? What are people looking for?

You get a ringside seat to these auto shows-stuff most of us never get to see. Tell us what goes on?

For someone who has never considered a GM product before, why should they consider one now?

I want to thank General Motors for this interview opportunity! I also want to thank James Bell for taking out the time to discuss Cadillac CTS, Chevy Corvette, the refreshed Buick Regal and LaCrosse. GM please send me some to review!!!
time to answer my questions. General Motors have great products on the market right now and I hope to get into the new

2013 NY Auto Show: 2014 Buick LaCrosse and Regal

The Buick Regal and LaCrosse have been refreshed for the 2014 model year. Both models will be on display at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. The Regal and LaCrosse receive styling changes, and other adjustments for 2014.

The 2014 Regal and LaCrosse get a revised chrome grille and standard LED daytime running lights. New
safety and alert systems include: forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a following-distance indicator.

The Regal will be available with two engine choices. The base engine is a 2.4L direct injection 4-cylinder engine with eAssist. The 2.4L engine is good for 182 horespower and 172 lb-ft of torque. The Regal Turbo and Regal GS will use a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, that now produces 250 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Compared to last year's models, the Turbo gains 39 hp and 35 lb-ft of torque, while the GS loses 11 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard and a 6-speed manual is optional on turbocharged Regals. Models with 2.0L engine and 6-speed automatic transmission is now offered with the Haldex AWD system.

The LaCrosse's power will carry over from last year's model. Buyers will be able to choose from the 3.6L V6 or the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine with eAssist. All LaCrosse models get improved aerodynamics with the use of active grille shutters.

What are your thoughts on the refreshed 2014 Buick Regal and LaCrosse?

2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid

Infiniti will unveil the 2014 QX60 (formerly JX35) Hybrid at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. The new QX60 Hybrid will use a new gas-electric hybrid system that Infiniti calls Direct Response Hybrid. Infiniti is ditching the 3.5L V6 for a 2.5L supercharged 4-cylinder engine paired with a 15 kw electric motor. The 4-cylinder engine and electric motor is expected to produce around 250 horsepower. Like the non-hybrid version Infiniti will use a CVT. Buyers will be able to select either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The QX60 Hybrid will achieve 26 miles per gallon combined city and highway driving. The battery pack is placed under the third row to allow as much cargo space as the non-hybrid version.

The 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid will go on sale this summer. The hybrid QX60 is expected to cost around $3,000 more than the non-hybrid version. The QX60 Hybrid will be the second hybrid in Infiniti's lineup, joining the Q70 Hybrid (formerly M35 Hybrid). More details will be revealed at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, which opens to the public on March 29th.
