Carroll Lachnit is a consumer advice editor at Edmunds.com, responsible for directing a team that writes about car shopping, leasing and related topics. Lachnit is a career journalist and has worked as a daily newspaper reporter, magazine editor and Web site editor. She's also the author of four published mystery novels, including one in which the protagonist manages to free herself from the trunk of a Hyundai Elantra (prior to the advent of trunk-safety releases) before it's crushed by freight train. Her first car was a hand-me-down 1960 Chevrolet Impala.
