Interview: Child Passenger Safety w/ Kate Carr President and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide

This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 15-21), and I had the opportunity to interview Kate Carr, President and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide. A new study reveals that an alarming number of parents drive without buckling up their children. In our interview Kate demonstrates how to correctly install those seats into a car, reminds parents how important it is that their child is buckled up, and gives great tips that parents should use.

Safe Kids Worldwide:
Safe Kids Worldwide is a global network of organizations dedicated to providing parents and caregivers with practical and proven resources to protect kids from unintentional injuries, the number one cause of death to children in the United States. Throughout the world, almost one million children die of an injury each year, and everyone of these tragedies is preventable. Safe Kids works with an extensive network of more than 600 coalitions in the US and in 23 countries to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings and more. Since 1988, Safe Kids has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from unintentional injury by 53 percent. Working together, we can do much more for kids everywhere.

Kate Carr:
Prior to joining Safe Kids Worldwide in October 2011, Ms. Carr served as a managing director of Malaria No More and played a lead role in resource mobilization and expansion of programmatic activities in Africa. Ms. Carr's experience in leading worldwide organizations includes the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation where, as president and CEO, she expanded the Foundation's work beyond the United States and promoted global education, awareness, and compassion about children with HIV/AIDS. Ms. Carr's political experience includes serving as Special Assistant to the President, Office of Public Liaison, at the White House and working on multiple local, state, and national campaigns.

Nissan revealed the all-new 2014 Nissan Rogue at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 2014 Rogue is the first vehicle to be built on the new Nissan/Renault Common Module Family platform architecture. The new Rogue will be available in three trims, S, SV, and SL.

Powering the 2014 Rogue will be a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine producing 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be mated to Nissan's Xtronic CVT with Sport mode. Available tech on the new Rogue include NissanConnect, Navigation, Around View Monitor, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and LED headlights.

Pricing:

Rogue S FWD: $23,350
Rogue SV FWD: $25,090
Rogue SL FWD: $28,930

All-wheel drive: $1,350

The Green Light: The 2014 Rogue is a move in the right direction and should definitely see its sales rise. Just based off of the pictures the Rogue's interior looks very similar to the Altima and Sentra which I am not a big fan of. The overall design of the new Rogue is 100 times better than the last generation Rogue. It will be interesting to see how the all-new Rogue competes against the other vehicles in its class. The all-new Rogue will hit dealerships in November.

What are your thoughts on the redesigned 2014 Nissan Rogue?
